::You finally fall asleep and then start dreaming. In your dreams you are DEAD TIRED and trying to keep your eyelids open. And then you wake up. DEAD TIRED and trying to keep your eyelids open.
::You buy a 16oz espresso even though you very rarely even finish a 12oz one.
::Your bed is the most magical place in the whole world and you daydream about going to sleep in it all day long.
::You don't even care that the kids have taken out every. single. toy. they. own. because it gives you 15 minutes of time to just sit on the couch and stare at the wall.
::You may or may not have given your kids hotdogs 3x in the last week for lunch... because it's just too much work to make sandwiches.
::You put refrigerated items in the cupboards. And don't notice until the next time you open the cupboard.
::You're yawning so much you can hardly see through your squinty, watery eyes and your kiddos think you keep crying.
::You don't even care that the dog is eating all the food that the kids have thrown on the floor. Even though it gives her biohazardous gas. Because it means you don't have to vacuum as soon.
::You use the broom to gather up all the toys. And then use the dustpan to dump them in the toybox. And you think it's totally normal and acceptable behavior.
::You use copious amounts of wipes even though you have no kids in diapers. Because they are just SO HANDY for wiping faces/hands/the gunk off the leather couches/etc... And you don't have to get up, because they live by the couch.
::There may or may not be a giant booty imprint on the couch from where you've been sitting the past 3 weeks. :-D

Scone Recipe
I know... two posts in two days!! It's amazing, isn't it? ;-)
So. I have this scone recipe and it's the bomb. It really is. I originally found the recipe on allrecipes.com, I think. And so I wanted to share it. With you. Because I love you that much and think you should make them. Don't be afraid, cuz it's actually really easy and then you can impress your friends and family. =)
These scones are not dry. They are just delicious. And you can make whatever flavor combination suits your fancy.
Here is the basic dough recipe:
1 c sour cream + 1 t baking soda, mixed
4 c flour
1 c sugar
2 t baking powder
1/4 t cream of tartar
1 t salt
1 c butter, cold (use the real stuff, not margarine) (and I use salted sweet cream butter because that's just what I buy and have on hand)
1 egg
1 t vanilla
You mix the sour cream and baking soda first and let it stand while you assemble the rest of the ingredients. It will rise and expand quite a bit, so use a big bowl.
Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, cream of tartar and salt until well combined. I use my KitchenAid for the whole thing, but you can also do it by hand. Once the dry ingredients are combined, cut in the butter until it resembles coarse crumbs. Mix the egg and vanilla together and then add to the dry ingredients, along with the proofed sour cream. Mix just until combined. The more you mix, the more coarse/tough the scones will be. So be gentle.
Then from there you can add whatever you want! Here are some suggestions:
Cranberry Orange White Chocolate Scones:
Add 1/2 c craisins
1/2 c orange juice concentrate, thawed (I also add orange extract... about a teaspoon)
1 c white chocolate chips
Orange Milk Chocolate Scones:
Add 1/2 c orange juice concentrate, thawed + 1 t orange extract (the extract is optional)
1 c milk chocolate chips
Cinnamon Sugar Scones:
Add 1 tsp cinnamon and 1/2 t nutmeg to the dough. Once the scones are rolled and cut on the cookie sheets, brush the tops of them with milk and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.
Chocolate Chip Scones
Just add 1 c chocolate chips to the dough
So once your dough is mixed with whatever flavor combination you chose, turn onto floured surface and knead gently a few times. I usually divide the dough into 3 or 4 different "disks". I pat each one into a circle and cut with a pizza cutter. You can make the scones as big or small as you like; they do rise/expand quite a bit.
Transfer to a greased cookie sheet (or use a silpat-that's the absolute easiest!! And you can get knock-off silicone sheets at places like Target or Wal-Mart.) leave 2-3 inches between the scones. Sometimes the dough turns out really sticky and moist. I'm not sure why or what causes it, but if that happens then I just spoon the dough into blobs on the cookie sheet (without kneading it at all). They don't turn out in pretty little triangles, but they taste just as great. ;-) Bake at 350 for 15-20 minutes. They may still look light and not done, but you don't want to overbake them or they get dry. If the bottoms are brown, consider them done.
It may seem complicated or like a lot of steps, but it's really, really not. I promise. Especially if you have a stand mixer to do most of the work. These freeze well if you wrap them in foil and freeze in a gallon freezer bag. Then I just take them out of the plastic freezer bag (still wrapped in foil) and place them in a 350 degree oven for 10-15 minutes to warm them up. You can easily pull a few out of the freezer if you have unexpected guests and voila! Scones and coffee and super impressed friends! ;-D
In the winter I make these far more often than I'd like to admit. Seriously, a few times a week. And then I just freeze the extras.
My absolute favorite are the Orange Milk Chocolate ones; but then I'm a fool for the chocolate oranges they sell around Christmas time, so there you go.
If you try them, let me know how they turned out and how you liked them!!
Make em for breakfast tomorrow morning to kick off this Memorial Day Weekend right! :-D

Precious Little Children
Oh, you guys.
Last night I was surfing the net, reading new blogs that I've found recently. One of my favorites is this one: Gaggle of Greens
She is genuine and funny. =) While reading through her blog, I came upon a post where her daughter cut her hair and sold it to Locks of Love in honor of a little girl named Kate who has cancer.
Whoo boy.
I went to Kate's CaringBridge site... cue tears. Here it is, if you want to read it: Kate McRae I'm sure her family would appreciate all the prayers, love and support they can get.
Kate is 7 now but was only 5 when she was diagnosed with a brain tumor. My daughter Kate is 6 now. My MIL has a brain tumor. It totally tugged at my heart and spoke to me.
It made me so so so so so SO thankful for my healthy children, despite the fact that they've been acting like total crazy hooligans lately. I'm talking CRAZY. Crazier than the lovechild of Charlie Sheen and Lady GaGa. Yeah, it's bad.
They have been kicking each other. Hitting each other. SPITTING on each other. :-O WHAAA????? I did not raise them to be this way.
But after reading about Kate's journey and battle for her life, my goodness I realized how much I have to be thankful for. All my children are healthy. Yes, they act like rabid monkeys sometimes, but they ARE young after all. Sometimes I tend to forget that. They've only been in the world such a short amount of time! Kate is 6, Christian is 5 and Owen is only 3. Yet I expect them to behave like they are already full grown, with manners to boot!
When I was pregnant (5 times in 2.5 years, if I may refresh your memory) it was SUCH a whirlwind. I got pregnant so fast, so many times that I hardly even had time to think of the blessing it was that I gave birth to 3 healthy children. That my pregnancies were for the most part uncomplicated. That my kiddos have all their fingers and toes. Everything works. It really is nothing short of a MIRACLE. To have a healthy baby! And even though I always thought it was cheesy when people would say, "We don't care if it's a boy or girl, we just want a healthy baby." Now I'm all, "AMEN, Sister! Preach it! Hallelujah!!"
Anyway, I went in to check on them before I went to bed last night, like I always do. I gave each one a kiss and hugged them extra tight, and thanked the Good Lord above for His bountiful blessings over me. I am so richly blessed!!!!
While tucking him in, Owen woke up. He smiled at me sleepily and gave me a kiss. Then, as I turned to walk away I heard, "Mommy?" "Yes, Owen?" A huge grin lit up his face and he said, "I love you more than strawberries." Oh. My. Word. MELT MY HEART!!!!!!
So, I just want to take a step back and appreciate them for the sweet little people they are. Even when they are karate chopping each other and everything around them. Even when they throw 11 birdies and 5 flipflops on the roof. Where mama can't reach them. Because she is afraid of ladders. And rickety porch roofs. Even when they are laughing hysterically even though they were supposed to be asleep 45 minutes ago. And even when Kate, my sweet, FEISTY Kate says, "HUMPH!!!" about everything I ask her to do. And she literally says "HUMPH". I do not know where she learned this. I do not say HUMPH.
They are my babies, and they always will be. And I am so thankful for them. How can you not love these faces!?

Awesome/Not Awesome
I have been at death's door the past 2 days. Okay, okay, not really. But it sure felt like it!! I got some kind of flu bug and it totally whipped me.
I'm feeling better today, so I'm attempting a post. But don't have high expectations. ;-)
AWESOME: Taking a family vacation.
NOT AWESOME: Taking a family vacation and then the kids acting like spoiled rotten entitled royalty.
AWESOME: Losing weight.
NOT AWESOME: Losing weight because you've been throwing up and having diarrhea for 24 hours.
AWESOME: Disneyland.
NOT AWESOME: Wearing Disney characters on your clothing, especially if you're over the age of 4. And most definitely if you're over 20 you should never, ever wear clothes with Disney characters on them. Amen.
AWESOME: Having a husband who can come home and pick up the pieces when you've been sicker than a dog.
NOT AWESOME: Subjecting your husband to what you look/smell like after being sick for 24 hours.
AWESOME: Cuddling with kids.
NOT AWESOME: Being puked on while cuddling with kids.
AWESOME: Sunny weather.
NOT AWESOME: More rainy days than sunny days. Also, sunburns. Not awesome.
AWESOME: Finding seashells on the beach and playing in the waves on family vacation.
NOT AWESOME: Finding a dead baby dolphin (?) on the beach. Even Not Awesomer: Find a half eaten dead baby dolphin (?) on the beach.
AWESOME: S'mores.
NOT AWESOME: Children terrified of bonfire on the beach.
AWESOME: Flying a kite at the beach.
NOT AWESOME: Being pelted with sand and slowly freezing to death from the wind on the beach.
AWESOME: Getting notes from your 6 year old:
I love you Dad and Mom. You are the bestest parents. I love you.)

Friday Fess Up
I confess:
*As I lay in bed at night, unable to sleep, I compose posts in my head. They are always witty, interesting and fun. Then I fall asleep and when I wake up the next morning, it's all gone. So you're stuck with confession posts.
*I ate strawberry dessert for lunch.
*I stopped at a garage sale on my way home from taking Kate to school and Owen got 2 Buzz Lightyear toys for fifty cents and Christian got a yellow stick pony for $2. Yellow is his favorite color.
*I love pistachios but could go the rest of my life without eating peanuts and would be just fine.
*I like the "Celebs Best Commnets" on People.com
*My kids had turkey sausage for breakfast. That's it. Just sausage. It's what they wanted and I thought, "Hey, at least it's protein!"
*Owen is supposed to be napping but I can hear Buzz yelling,"TO INFINITY AND BEYOND!"
*I had a super great snuggle session with my best friend Jen's daughter Macy today. It was divine. =)
*Last night the last thing Josh said to me before we fell asleep was, "I like spending my life with you." Ditto, Romeo. Ditto.

*We still haven't bought a van. The one we were looking at before got snapped up by a different family. Oh well, there's something out there that will suit us and is affordable, right!?! Right.
*I wear Josh's deodorant. A lot.
*Otter Pops are now made with 100% fruit juice. Or so they say. I wonder... How did they come up with the name Otter Pop, anyway?
*Is it a full moon? Cuz SOMETHING is wackadoodle with my kids.
*I think the amount of money professional athletes and entertainers make is insane and ridiculous.
*We have no plans this weekend and I'm thrilled!!!! Hopefully we get a lot of hanging out and snuggling done. With maybe a side of shopping (the fun kind, not the grocery kind) thrown in.
*HAPPY FRIDAY!!!! (I totally just typed "Firday". Happy Firday, too.)

Guess What?
I showered!
Hee hee, it's the little things, right!? ;-)
We had a fun party for Christian, Josh and my sister Melissa yesterday. Christian was PSYCHED to get a skateboard. More so than his new bike, even. He was on it for approximately 1.5 minutes before he took his first big spill, so my very kind (other) sister ran to the store for knee and elbow pads and wrist guards. :-D He sort of looks like a robot when he wears them. I'll get a picture and post it when I recap his party.
The other day we bought a backyard game set; it came with a volleyball and net, racquets and birdies and lots of other games. We bought extra birdies and it was then I found out that they are actually technically called "shuttlecocks". Ha ha, I'm such a child and cracked up at that. ;-)
The weather here has been schizophrenic. It can't decide if it's winter or spring or summer. On any given day you could be wearing long sleeves and pants or a bathing suit. I wish it would just decide to be summer and stay warm and sunny!!!
I think I'm getting closer to finishing my post on Mr. Owen.
We're taking a family trip next week and I'm super duper excited! We have a timeshare and the resorts are really nice. The kids are excited to swim and I'm excited to make fun memories. =)
I really want a new camera but feel bad asking for one because the last one Josh bought me I broke (dropped it on the cement) within a few weeks. :,-( But he thinks it can be fixed, so we'll see. I'm sorta bummed all my pictures are poor quality cell phone ones.
I love powdered doughnuts.
I also like capers. But not with doughnuts.
Owen has the squishiest most kissable cheeks.
Kate is getting SO TALL!!! She is gonna be taller than me by the time she's in third grade.
Christian is ALL boy and totally into sports. His hand/eye coordination is actually pretty amazing, considering he has a lazy eye.
Josh got a speeding ticket today. =(
I love all of you who read my posts and comment!

Random Things for Tuesday
Hola, amigos!
Hope you're well. Just wanted to throw some more random facts at ya. Cuz I can. ;-)
1) I like Doritos, but ONLY as soon as the bag is opened. If it's been opened for even 1 day the chips don't taste the same to me and I don't like them.
2) Our dog is SUPER shaggy because I keep not taking her to get groomed in an effort to save money. She looks ridiculous.
3) I sent this picture to my sister today. This is me. Unshowered, dropping Kate off at school. Oh wait, I was actually waiting to pick her up from school. But still unshowered.

Just keeping it real, folks.
4) Today is Christan's fifth birthday. I can't believe he is 5!!!!
5) My house is a TRAIN WRECK. Did I mention we're having Christian's party here tonight? And that there are at least 10 people coming? And that it's for dinner?
6) Over the weekend my boys both found a dollar on the ground. So yesterday we went to the dollar store so they could spend it. Christian got an FBI set and Owen got a gun that shoots balls. I think both were broken within 3 minutes of opening them,
7) Kate couldn't choose between a bag of 4 ring pops or a bracelet charm that had 5 different princesses you could put in it. She asked which one I thought she should get, and I told her the charm bracelet cuz it would last longer. But then she promptly lost all but 1 of the princess charms and proceeded to blame ME. Because "I SAID IT WOULD LAST LONGER BUT IT DIDN'T!!!!"
8) I still love her. Even with her 6-going-on-16 attitude. Because she also says things like the following: We were discussing the bathing suit she was going to get at the store and she requested a bikini. I said that was fine as long as they had one in her size that was modest. Christian asked what modest meant and Kate piped up with, "It MEANS it's APPROPRIATE." :-D
9) Ever since starting to take Zoloft I can't drink coffee. Wait, let me amend that. I can only drink blended coffee drinks. The kind that cost $4 a pop. Either I'm gonna go caffeine free all summer or I'm gonna have to get a part time job.
10) I want someone to put me down for a nap and clean and cook and decorate so when I wake up I'm magically ready for the party. Any takers? Hello? Bueller?

Mother's Day
Kate made some Mother's Day gifts for me at school, and they were too cute not to share. =)
On Friday she presented me with this:
On Friday she presented me with this:
This is what the little poem at the bottom said:
And then inside was this:
Her little handprint! So cute; I've always wanted to do these with my kiddos but have never actually gotten around to it.
She also excitedly told me that she had ANOTHER surprise for me, but it had to wait until Sunday morning. And I absolutely HAD to be in bed when she gave it to me. She kept it hidden in her room and on Sunday morning she walked in with a megawatt grin and presented me with this:
It's a little white bag, and this is a picture she drew of me in bed. TOLD you my eyelashes are fabulous. ;-) But seriously, my eyes aren't that wonky. At least, I don't think they are. No one's mentioned it to me, but maybe they're just being nice!????
And on the other side was this sweet poem:
And inside was a granola bar and a tea bag! Isn't that just a super cute idea!!?? No pictures of the granola bar, because I promptly unwrapped it and ate it, all the while gushing about how wonderful it was and how Kate was so incredibly sweet and clever. =)
I had a good day, and got a sweet card from Josh as well.
I'm so thankful to be a mother. My kiddos are pretty special and I'm glad they're mine. =) And they are pretty cute, too, if I do say so myself. :-D

She drew a picture of Mom, Dad and Oh look! A baby in mommy's tummy! Or pouch or something. Also, I'd like to state for the record that my head is not that big. Nor are my legs that skinny. And I'm not taller than Josh. But my eyelashes ARE that fabulous. ;-)
And now for Exhibit B:
While playing with play-doh one day, she made this. Me. Pregnant. Shocker! Who would've thunk!? I do think she's pretty creative.
I would, however, like to state for the record that my stomach isn't that big, and it doesn't usually get that big while I'm pregnant. But Kate probably just doesn't remember that.
I gotta give her credit; she is not vague. ;-)
Happy Friday!!!

Brain Dead
This is what my brain looks like. It's little. It can't hold much. It's overworked and underpaid. It's got nothing funny or whimsical. Poor little pathetic brain.
I keep meaning to tackle my last installment of my kiddos, but the thought of searching through all the pictures just makes me want to fall asleep for a year or three. It's taxing and overwhelming and I'm just too tired right now. Again, poor and pathetic.
